about

With all of the causes that campaign for funds from the government pot, it is not surprising that physical infrastructure projects are often left on the back burner. This has occurred and continues to occur despite research and expertise that could address some of the issues of aged-out, unsustainable foundations. When such systems ultimately collapse often in dramatic, dangerous, and deadly fashion more attention is given. Important projects are often frozen until that point. Although this song draws both literally and figuratively on ideas of cities, its message can be generalized. I wrote these words when many of my colleagues and I found ourselves relegated to working odd jobs as a financial necessities, rather than striving to improve our communities and collective impact through the work that we feel passionately about. It describes the internal confluence of helplessness and perseverance. (Neal)

lyrics

we wait for concrete rubble to crumble underfoot
or asphalt that has done its time
in spite of knowledge of cleaner lines
a dying relic
woven through frustrated cities
and people who are forced to bide their time
in pursuits outside
the reasons that surpass themselves
to understand a history of priority t
hat weighs upon the minds of the able and willing
the aware and dissatisfied young and old alike
I cannot be reduced to an apathete
